Germany v Italy was the real final of the World Cup, and was acknowleged as such by many people in the know. France put up a suprisingly spirited performance in the final, but for them to win would have been nothing short of an upset (and a travesty, given Malouda and Henry diving just to get them INTO the final).

In all seriousness, France were impotent up front. They created lots of opportunities, but just could not convert.

Brazil: Free-kick
Portugal: Penalty
Italy: Penalty

With all due respect, anyone who cannot score in general play doesn't DESERVE to win World Cups. France lacked teeth. They played lots of flashy stuff, but had no end product.

Italy, on the other hand, had 11 different goalscorers, and more shots on goal than any almost other side in the competition (I believe Germany were the only side ahead of them). There is no valid measuring stick which has France as being the best side in the competition, other than your clearly biased viewpoint.

Germany and Italy had the two form sides play off against each other, and Argentina were only let down by tactics, not playing sides.
